The skill of saying 'No' - Uncovered.

Image
Do you feel like you're in an endless struggle of egos with your little one, that you're not getting the right response from them, that you keep losing your cool and lashing out or just giving in to their demands, and that your relationship with them is best described as one filled with conflicts and confrontations? If most of your interaction with your child is negative and disciplinary, your connection with them may suffer. Overusing the word 'No' might take you down this road. "No" is a powerful word that is easy to utter and quick on the lips. Your child will frequently hear you use this term, and you will listen to it from your child. A parent must learn to say "no" to a kid so the youngster can subsequently say "no" to himself. Delaying gratification is difficult for all children and some adults. "I want it now,", especially in toddlers, is a motivating need. Accepting "no" from others is a prerequisite...

Life in Mumbai - part 3

Hi, I'm back. ๐Ÿ˜€ Back to Mumbai then. One of the many things that I would like to talk about is that my dad had introduced us to viewing English movies. His intention was to improve our vocabulary and fluency of the language. And the 2 best theaters that we visited were Eros and Regal cinema in Churchgate. It was fun and a sense of exuberance filled us when we shared our experiences, on the next day, with our friends. Akbarally's was the  best shopping place in Churchgate. We would spend hours looking at the awesome things like dresses, make up kits, watches and so many things that I wished I would have bought from there. We did buy only a few of them to show off to our friends,  but they were very costly.  One thing that I realised having @ Akbarally's was a soft and delicious Swiss cake roll. Whether we would buy anything from the store or not, having my favourite Swiss cake was mandatory. Those who have seen me, now you know why I'm on a heavier side. ๐Ÿ˜œ I...

Life in Mumbai - part 2

There is much more to Mumbai than my education.  Reading, travelling, enjoying food and having fun. Come Sunday morning and we looked forward to only one thing and that was travelling all the way from Borivali to Churchgate, to meet our family friends  - the Sampats. The hustle and bustle of the crowd on the station mounted our excitement. We used to wait on the platform and look around at the typical railway station activities while waiting for our dad to get the tickets. I remember very well, that once during one such wait, we were almost caught by the ticket collector and taken into his office when our dad just arrived with the tickets. We all gave a sigh of  relief. So, mounting a train and getting a seat on it needs a lot of dexterity  and patience at the same time. On getting  the desired window seats, we, kids used to feel on top of the world. Stations would pass by one after the other and soon enough we would reach the station full of the fragr...

Life in Mumbai - part 1

Mumbai  - a city of dreams, aspirations, desires and fun. I have been very lucky to have lived in the world's one of the happening cities. Growing up in Mumbai was more fun than anything else.  I remember myself getting up as early as 5.30 am to catch the school bus, which picked us up at around 6.20 am. That process instilled a sense of responsibility and discipline in us. We would witness the lovely sunrise from our school playground as our school was on a hill. The ringing of school bell, the changing of classes and teachers, the recess time fun, buying little food items from a qauint little canteen (for which we used to literally beg money from our mom), running races over the school slope, trying to touch little snails-mushrooms-flowers growing along the walls of the slope during rainy season, watching gushing rain water over the slope, walking all the way home in heavy rain as buses didn't run during rainy days, participating in various events, enjoying the movi...

Memoirs of a child.

Childhood.  The word itself brings a smile on our face. I would rather say on every body's face. The innocence, the carefree abandon, the sweet dependence on our loved ones, the unconditional love and freedom to do as you wish can be summed up as childhood. I have many memories of my being a child. When I close my eyes and enter the state of being a child, the most vivid memory is of my school. Oh! What a lovely school I went to and how carefree were those days! I consider myself very lucky to have great educators around me who not only taught me academic skills but also inculcated values which make a good human being. I, may like to add here that I don't know whether I have been good enough or some of my actions (karma) invited some experiences and life changing events in my life. A shy, quiet and introvert me, had a few really awesome friends. We shared and enjoyed food and fun. A feeling of empathy, towards my friend's meagre lunch packs, awakened in me a sen...

The beginning

Hi all. Life is very amazing at times. One cannot imagine what to expect from it. Sounds familiar right! But it's true. Atleast I had not expected certain events in my life, you know certain nasty and annoying twists and turns which compel you to sit down for a while and think - WHY ME? On really sitting down, on my favourite sofa, with a cup of tea and a beautiful evening outside my home, some realisations as to my journey of life dawned upon me. The dreams of having a perfect life laughed in my face.  Instantly I thought of my mother's preaching.  She always says that - All of us have to bear the consequences of our own Karma. Karma doesn't leave anyone. All your karma are judged, analysed and taken to action in this life only. There is nothing after death.  Well, on re thinking it's not as bad as you think. I will share my thoughts and experiences bit by bit. Interesting encounters they are  - all of them. I  hope you all will enjoy it and m...
