The skill of saying 'No' - Uncovered.

Image
Do you feel like you're in an endless struggle of egos with your little one, that you're not getting the right response from them, that you keep losing your cool and lashing out or just giving in to their demands, and that your relationship with them is best described as one filled with conflicts and confrontations? If most of your interaction with your child is negative and disciplinary, your connection with them may suffer. Overusing the word 'No' might take you down this road. "No" is a powerful word that is easy to utter and quick on the lips. Your child will frequently hear you use this term, and you will listen to it from your child. A parent must learn to say "no" to a kid so the youngster can subsequently say "no" to himself. Delaying gratification is difficult for all children and some adults. "I want it now,", especially in toddlers, is a motivating need. Accepting "no" from others is a prerequisite...

Have you lost your ‘Me’ in becoming a ‘We’?

Image
Classic relationship situation:  You kick start feeling like the best version of yourself you've ever been. Before you know it, you're rummaging around in the relationship for a relic of the person you were when you fell in love. "Did I place that individual somewhere? What happened to "Me"? And how did I get engulfed by the "We" that you and I have become? And, by the way, where did you go? I haven't seen that individual in quite some time!" The challenge is, how can you be in a relationship without losing yourself; how can you be a member of a ‘We’ without losing your ‘Me’?   Being in a relationship is difficult since it allows for two distinct experiences. On the one hand, it will enable two people to be encouraged by their partner's respect and affection. Such collaboration benefits both parties, allowing them to bloom and progress as individuals.   On the other hand, people may enter a relationship with the expectation that...

Are we really listening?

Image
I was window shopping in a mall the other day when I noticed a group of friends having a good time. Suddenly, one of them asked the others if they were paying attention to what she was saying. ‘We heard you.’ was the immediate response. The apparent reaction of the girl was that they had not listened to what she had stated. Because I had overheard this exchange, I wondered what the difference was between hearing and listening. Isn't it the same thing? This entire episode gave me food for thought, and I set out on a trip to figure out how listening differs from hearing someone. So, are you really listening ? Here's what I discovered, much to my surprise. I had always assumed that I was listening, but I recently found that I was only hearing. You know, fellas, there's a fine line between hearing and listening. When you hear someone, you don't have to make a conscious effort; your ears do the work. But when it comes to listening, the difficult challenge is to take ...

How about expressing your feelings?

Image
'Express to live!' Just the other day around I was watching a movie which led me to thinking about how important is expressing your feelings or talking to someone about your emotions is. What happens when you want to talk to somebody about how you feel? Your heart may race as you attempt to think of what to say. Possibly part of you wants to open out, but another half feels wary.   Maybe you're unsure about yourself. Feelings can be difficult to express, and communicating them isn't always easy. But why do you hesitate? Is it possible to gain this helpful skill?   Emotions have a tail. When an external stimulus or event triggers an awful feeling, the experience and its existence in your conscious and unconscious thoughts might last a lifetime. However, thoroughly understanding the process may ultimately solve past concerns and limit their impact. You achieve this by changing your limiting ideas and acting from a good place, not a negative one. What is it abou...

Grown - up children Vs. Grown - up parents.

Image
Hi all, Having been away for quite some time, I've decided to return. I've been forced to pause and reflect on how I'm evolving as a parent because of a particular circumstance.     A question for everyone: Has anybody ever ripped to shreds or scratched over rules in public places because they claim they're being mocked or "Bullshit!"? Do not lecture us, as if we do not know how to use it. We already know.' Secondly, instead of continual nagging or shouting about it, can't we use some new ways to inculcate discipline or the necessary etiquettes in our homes? (Who listens to it in the first place...) Also, when we grew older, did we dare to defy our parents? Is listening to parents considered crap? You must think that I've gone insane. However, TBH as a worried parent, I'm afraid that we're taking on parental responsibilities a tad bit far that our children don't actually need.   Recently, I've noticed a few modificatio...

Parental Control

Parental Control From a long time now, I have been finding a feature called ‘Parental Control’ on various social media platforms, websites and digital viewing channels. What is this ‘Parental Control’? Any guesses? Why guess? You know it right! Well according to our favorite Wikipedia, ‘Parental controls’ are features which may be included in digital television services, computer and video games, mobile devices and software that allow parents to restrict the access of content to their children. These controls were created to assist parents in their ability to restrict certain content view able by their children. This may be because of the content they deem inappropriate for their age, maturity level or feel is aimed more at an adult audience. Which is undoubtedly true. Parental controls fall into roughly four categories: • Content Filters, which limit access to age inappropriate content. • Usage Controls, which constrain the usage of these devices such as placing time-limits o...

On having frustrating thoughts or negativity.

So, you do face frustrating thoughts? Well, to tell you the truth, I too have them. I thought that by simply meditating or emptying my mind of these intermittent thoughts, will bring me relief. But then I realized  that thoughts don't leave you rather we have to leave the thoughts. Oh really it’s difficult to do so!! I wondered, then, that why are we surrounded by hurtful, annoying thoughts and situations frequently? Negativity has enclosed us tightly. And this negativity has forced us to inculcate a certain way of thinking. Has it become our habit to take things in a certain way? That is by being biased , prejudiced or having a defensive attitude towards any person or a situation!! Being presumptuous during conversations and then react (not respond) in any of them. This makes me ask myself and you – the reader, to introspect ourselves, mind fully, whether we are in possession of any of the above said attributes of behaviour? So what should we conclude from...
